NZ Trip - Oct17

We spent a week in NZ late last month - this included two days in Wellington and five in Christchurch, staying with Mum and Dad.

It really was a superb trip. We caught up with a lot of friends, family + old work mates, took in a lot of sights and spent time with Mum and Dad. We also had excellent weather which always helps!

I took the Canon 5D Mkiv on a good road trip and got up early on a couple of mornings and took sunrise shots, firstly at Waimari Beach (close to my parent's house) and secondly at the top of the Port Hills.

Cleveland Lighthouse Pre Dawn - Sep17

Early this morning I took the 45 min drive out to the Cleveland Lighthouse to capture some early morning views.

This is a popular scenic spot, but at 4.30am today it was very gusty. I did fire off a few shots regardless.

I've crossed the line a bit here and created a couple of blended images using stock astro shots I've accumulated by the various trips to Lake Moogerah the last couple of years combined with a couple of shots I took this morning.

Personally I think the results look pretty amazing irrespective.

Sculptures by the Sea (Gold Coast) - Sep17

We went to this last year and really enjoyed it so it prompted a return visit!

The sculptures by the sea (a.k.a. "Swell") is held at Currumbin on the Gold Coast. It is an excellent day out and hard to appreciate the work that has gone into some of the exhibits.

Lake Moogerah - Aug17

My work colleague David and I made another trip out to Lake Moogerah which is about a 1 hour 15 min drive from Brisbane.

The spot offers brilliant night sky observation due to the low light pollution. This time of the year is good due to the low humidity and positioning of the Milky Way. Having said that, it was too high to allow for any decent panoramics, but we played around with David's remote triggered flash gun and tried a few different style of shots.
