Lake Atkinson - Sep18

This might be my last astro shoot for the year before the Milky Way is in a less optimal position. After photographing at Lake Moogerah numerous times, I decided to check out other locations within a 1.5 hour drive of Brisbane.

Lake Atkinson, about 1 hour west of the city, is a naturally forming lagoon across the Buabara Creek. There is quite a lot of bird life around here, but it also offered an excellent spot for star gazing and astro imaging. While not being as dark sky as Lake Moogerah, it made a nice change.

Enjoy the astro images - a couple are vertical panoramas stitched in Lightroom.

  1. Very striking - one can forget in city zones just how dazzling our galaxy is.
Wonder if any lifeforms will be left somewhere in the composite galaxy when we've merged with Andromeda? (closing in at 110 km/sec, but that's a crawl really and about 5-6 billion years have to pass).
